runner girl

It wasn't that long ago that it was believed that women couldn't run this far or that it was "bad" for women to push the limits. Thanks to some amazing running pioneer women, we get to not only run races, but have our very own women races!

This one’s for the ladies! The Utah Runner Girls Half Marathon & 5K are races designed specifically with all you runner girls in mind. Everything from the finisher necklace bling, to the treats along the course; did someone say chocolate?

Prizes and raffles will be ALL women specific, like laser hair removal, chemical peels, gift certificates to spas, and the list goes on. We have some unbelievable sponsors that have been generous with prizes for raffles, as well as those that place. After the race, come and join us for the expotique to shop around, grab some post race grub, and simply soak up all the glory of kicking some major butt after running 13.1 miles or a super sweet 5K!

We had an AMAZING first year race in 2011; thanks to all that made it a spectacular day! Come race with us in 2012, these races will sell out this year, and are going to be capped based on the current registration numbers already, so REGISTER EARLY!

This all women's race will benefit and give donations to Autism awareness
through a local Autistic foundation.

"Thank you for doing such a great job with this half and 5k. It is a wonderful cause. I look forward to next year and many more to come. Thank you again. PS. Love the shirts and finisher medal!!"

"I loved this race so much, it encouraged me to keep running, despite my age and health condition. I especially was touched by the man who kicked off the race this morning. I have a sister who was born with Cerebral Palsy, not the same as Autism, but I have very tender feelings, great love and respect for those special souls among us. That man brought tears to my eyes (luckily I had my sunglasses on). Thank you for organizing this meaningful race for such a noble cause. May the Lord bless you!"

training

To be prepared for race day, and to have a wonderful experience, you need a training schedule!  Follow the links below for information on proper training schedules.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page, or send us an email at info@utahrunnergirls.com. Also, don't miss our training tips from Coach Shaun:

  • Proper Shoe Fit
A good running shoe should be a half to a full size larger than your normal everyday shoe. This will provide adequate room for your foot to expand as you run. Shoes that don't fit properly can cause shin splints, blisters, loss of toe nails, discomfort, and making running not as comfortable as it could be. A sign that your running shoes may be too small would be numbness in your toes as you run. Getting a "gait analysis" is highly recommended when purchasing your running shoes, so you can determine which shoe is right for you. Coach Shaun's recommended running shoe, and personal favorite Saucony Kinvara
cause

Utah Runner Girls Half Marathon and 5K will be donating a portion of proceeds to Autism Speaks. We are so excited and thrilled to be able to run for Autism, and donate money to this great charity.

Autism Speaks is dedicated to change the future for all that struggle with Autism Spectrum Disorders. An estimated 1 out of 70 boys is diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum nationally, and in Utah that number is even higher. Many Utah families are impacted by Autism; these families need all the support and help they can get and we are happy and honored to raise money for this cause!

volunteer

The key to an amazing race are great volunteers! They are absolutely essential to make your race a success.  We are looking to build our volunteer team with individuals that are willing to give time, encouragement, and support our runners along the way and on race day! And what do you get in return you ask? An awesome volunteer T-shirt, necklace, swag bag, and post race food at the finishline! Oh..and the most important thing...the satisfaction of helping those awesome gals accomplish their goal! Priceless:)

We also LOVE cheer groups, dance groups, sports teams, and scouts as volunteers! If your group is looking for some service, we would love to have you!
